The women of Moshav Bareket immigrated to Israel as children in Operation Magic Carpet. From their childhood in the hidden hamburger of south-eastern Yemen, impressive and fascinating women who have preserved their unique tradition have been preserving their lives in Israel.
In the flavors and aromas of fire, herbs and healing, in dance, singing and story, the Barkat women offer visitors a window to enter their culture in all its varieties.

1. “Being a Habbanit”
A meeting centered on a story about an ancient and wonderful world and its vitality – preserved in Birkat. The encounter is unmediated, fascinating, smiling and moving.

“Baked in the scent of fire”
* “To be a hamburger” + “On the fire”: A visit to the yard of a house in Bareket, where they observe the demonstration of a reddish chametz, whose ingredients and taste are special, and it was done with ancient skill on fire. The bread is a kind of thin crepe pastry made from “rai” – a mixture of sour cream. The meeting includes hot drinks, delicious honey and white coffee, a special Habbani drink.

“Haban is also here”: activity number 2 + meat soup meal.
The meal includes a rich soup with pieces of beef, potatoes and onions. The soup and all its ingredients are seasoned delicately with home-made spices, which are special to the Habbani kitchen. Alongside them will be served bread or homemade pita bread, spinach, fenugreek, and wokeh (a hamburger tomato salsa).

Includes: – An explanation of Haban of the past and of Barkat today from a personal female perspective. – an excerpt from a poem and dance that tells anecdotes about the lives of women in the Habban as they are presented at holiday or henna ceremonies. – A full meal with chicken chunks in the center, and we slept in a special oven in the yard [“Mipe”], using an ancient cooking method that is practiced in Bareket until today. Potatoes, a dish of lasis, special sauces and everything – with aromas of homemade spices, delicate and healthy.

Moshav Bareket, located in the Shephelah, about 5 km northeast of Ben-Gurion Airport, was founded in 1952 by immigrants from Habban, a region in southern Yemen. His name, Bareket, as one of the stones of the breastplate, reveals the strength and beauty of the moshav women.
